BusinessMasdar and SOCAR Achieve Milestone with 760MW Solar Projects in Azerbaijan | Arabian Post

Masdar, the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy firm, and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) have finalized financing for their solar ventures in Azerbaijan, marking a significant step in the region’s transition to renewable energy. The projects, totaling a combined capacity of 760 megawatts, are part of a broader plan to position Azerbaijan as a key player in global sustainable energy markets.

The initiative, comprising the Garadagh solar farm and other renewable projects, underlines a strategic partnership aimed at leveraging Azerbaijan’s abundant solar and wind resources. The Garadagh facility, which alone accounts for 230 megawatts of the capacity, is expected to supply energy to thousands of homes annually, reducing dependency on fossil fuels. This development follows Masdar’s earlier ventures in Azerbaijan, including the groundbreaking of a 1-gigawatt renewable energy complex.

Key to the success of these projects is their alignment with Azerbaijan’s National Renewable Energy Development Strategy. The nation aims to diversify its energy mix, with renewable energy expected to constitute a significant share of its energy output by 2030. Azerbaijan’s government has expressed confidence in SOCAR’s ability to deliver these projects in partnership with Masdar, bolstering its reputation as a forward-looking energy producer.
