BusinessRTA Announces AED 431 Million Bridge Project | Arabian Post

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has taken a significant step towards enhancing accessibility for Dubai Harbour with a new project valued at AED 431 million. This initiative, awarded in collaboration with Shamal Holding, the owner and operator of Dubai Harbour, focuses on constructing dedicated entry and exit points, aiming to streamline traffic flow and reduce travel times for visitors and residents.

The centerpiece of the project is a two-lane bridge stretching 1, 500 meters. This direct link will connect Sheikh Zayed Road, a major Dubai thoroughfare, with Dubai Harbour. The bridge boasts a capacity of 6, 000 vehicles per hour, offering a substantial improvement to the area’s transportation infrastructure.

“This project provides a direct entry and exit for Dubai Harbour, easing movement for visitors and residents, ” explained Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA. “The bridge will have two lanes in each direction and will span 1, 500 meters, accommodating 6, 000 vehicles per hour. It will extend from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai) to Dubai Harbour Street, passing through the intersection of Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and crossing over the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street up to Dubai Harbour. “

Beyond the bridge construction, the project encompasses improvements to existing surface infrastructure at four key intersections along the designated route. These enhancements aim to further optimize traffic flow and expedite travel times. Notably, the anticipated reduction in travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour is significant, with journeys expected to shorten from 12 minutes to a mere 3 minutes upon completion.

The RTA’s initiative is expected to have a multifaceted positive impact. Improved accessibility is likely to stimulate further development within the Dubai Harbour area, attracting residents and visitors with the promise of easier access and reduced traffic congestion. This strategic investment aligns with Dubai’s ongoing efforts to establish itself as a premier global destination, offering residents and tourists a world-class transportation network.

The project marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s commitment to infrastructural development and improved connectivity. With construction underway, residents and visitors can look forward to a more efficient and streamlined travel experience to and from Dubai Harbour in the near future.
