BusinessSheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Surges in Global Ranking | Arabian Post

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi has earned a prominent spot in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Top Attractions rankings, rising two places to claim 8th position globally. This prestigious accolade places it among the world’s top 25 landmarks, based on reviews from more than eight million users across the globe.

SZGM, a symbol of Islamic architecture and cultural significance, also continues to lead the Middle East, maintaining its status as the region’s top tourist destination. The mosque topped a list of the 10 most iconic sites in the region, reaffirming its global reputation.

The mosque’s rise in TripAdvisor’s rankings reflects its growing appeal, which combines spiritual and cultural experiences with stunning architectural beauty. Completed in 2007, the mosque has long been a key attraction for both religious pilgrims and tourists interested in exploring the United Arab Emirates’ rich cultural heritage. Its majestic white marble structure, expansive courtyards, and intricate designs have made it a must-see destination for millions annually. The SZGM’s place in the top 1 per cent of global landmarks underscores its prominence on the world stage.

In addition to its position in the global rankings, the mosque’s visitor services have played a crucial role in its sustained appeal. These services, including guided tours, educational programs, and cultural exhibitions, have expanded the experience for visitors. By offering deeper insights into Islamic culture, the mosque provides more than just a visual spectacle—it offers a connection to the cultural and spiritual heart of the UAE.

While the Abu Dhabi-based mosque has captured the spotlight, another mosque from the UAE, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah, has also garnered recognition. This newer entry into the tourism circuit has gained momentum since opening its visitor services. Although not yet as well-known internationally as its Abu Dhabi counterpart, the mosque has quickly established itself as a significant attraction, ranking among the top 10 per cent of landmarks globally in TripAdvisor’s latest report. The opening of visitor services has sparked an influx of tourists, further solidifying the UAE’s status as a hub for architectural and cultural landmarks.

TripAdvisor’s rankings, which are based on user-generated reviews, provide a transparent reflection of popular destinations worldwide. The site’s 2025 report not only highlights the popularity of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in both Abu Dhabi and Fujairah but also draws attention to a broader trend in the region. As more people travel globally, places that blend cultural, spiritual, and architectural experiences are becoming increasingly sought after. The UAE, with its rich Islamic heritage, is poised to benefit from this trend, with more visitors seeking deeper engagement with its historical and cultural landmarks.

For the UAE, these recognitions are a testament to the country’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural tourism and diversify its attractions. Authorities have invested in preserving these sites, enhancing visitor facilities, and developing educational programs that highlight the country’s Islamic heritage. The impact of these investments is evident in the growing number of tourists visiting the UAE’s landmarks.
